conjunction with the IFU for Sabouraud Dextrose Agar
(Dehydrated) (CM0041B, CM0041K, CM0041R,
CM0041T).
Intended Use
Chloramphenicol Selective Supplements (SR0078E,
SR0078H) are intended to be used in the preparation of
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Dehydrated) (CM0041B,
CM0041K, CM0041R, CM0041T) for the isolation and
maintenance of dermatophytes, other fungi, and yeasts
from skin, hair, nails, genital, respiratory, and urine
samples.
Chloramphenicol Selective Supplements, when used with
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, are used in a diagnostic
workflow to aid clinicians in determining treatment options
for patients suspected of having fungal infections.
The devices are for professional use only, are not
automated nor are companion diagnostics.
Summary and Explanation
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is suitable for cultivation and
differentiation of fungi and may be used in the place of the
American medium Hodges.1 The fungi maintain their typical
cultural appearance and thus may be readily identified
according to the standard macroscopic characters
described by Sabouraud.2 The medium is often used with
antibiotics for the isolation of pathogenic fungi and Candida
albicans from material containing large numbers of other
fungi and bacteria.3-8
Principle of Method
Sabouraud Glucose Agar contains mycological peptone
and glucose to support growth of fungi. It is slightly acidic
which helps to inhibit bacteria whilst being favourable to
fungi. The addition of antimicrobial agents can increase the
selectivity of the medium. Chloramphenicol is a
bacteriostatic antimicrobial with a broad spectrum of activity
against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Specimen Collection, Handling and Storage
Specimen should be collected and handled following local
recommended guidelines, such as the UK Standards for
Microbiology Investigations (UK SMI) B 29 (Public Health
England, 2020).

Procedure
SR0078E – supplement for 500 ml of medium
•
Aseptically add 3 ml of ethanol to one vial of
SR0078E.
•
Mix gently to dissolve.
•
Add vial contents to 500 ml of agar base prepared as
directed.*
•
Cool to 50°C.
•
Mix well and aseptically dispense into sterile Petri
dishes.
*Supplement should be aseptically added post-
sterilization.
SR0078H – supplement for 2 litres of medium
•
Aseptically add 12 ml of ethanol to one vial of
SR0078H.
•
Mix gently to dissolve.
•
Add vial contents to 2 litres of agar base prepared as
directed.*
•
Cool to 50°C.
•
Mix well and aseptically dispense into sterile Petri
dishes.
*Supplement should be aseptically added post-
sterilization.

Metodens princip
Sabouraud Glucose Agar indeholder mykologisk pepton og

Résumé et description
La gélose dextrose de Sabouraud convient à la culture et à
la différenciation des champignons et peut être utilisée à la
place du milieu américain Hodges. 1Les champignons
conservent leur aspect culturel typique et peuvent donc être
facilement identifiés selon les caractères macroscopiques
standard décrits par Sabouraud.2 Le milieu est souvent
utilisé avec des antibiotiques pour l’isolement des
champignons pathogènes et Candida albicans à partir de
matériel contenant un grand nombre d’autres champignons
et bactéries.3-8
Principe de la méthode
La gélose glucose Sabouraud contient de la peptone
mycologique et du glucose pour favoriser la croissance des
champignons. Elle est légèrement acide, ce qui contribue à
inhiber les bactéries tout en étant favorable aux
champignons. L’ajout d’agents antimicrobiens peut
augmenter la sélectivité du milieu. Le chloramphénicol est
un antimicrobien bactériostatique avec un large spectre
d'activité contre les bactéries à gram positives et négatives.

Les échantillons doivent être prélevés et manipulés

Verwendungszweck
Chloramphenicol Selektiv-Supplements (SR0078E,
SR0078H) sind für die Zubereitung von Sabouraud
Dextrose-Agar (dehydriert) (CM0041B, CM0041K,
CM0041R, CM0041T) zur Isolierung und Erhaltung von
Dermatophyten, anderen Pilzen und Hefen aus Haut,
Haaren, Nägeln, Genitalien, Atemwegen und Urinproben
bestimmt.
Chloramphenicol Selektiv-Supplements werden in
Verbindung mit Sabouraud Dextrose-Agar in einem
diagnostischen Arbeitsablauf verwendet, um Klinikern bei
der Festlegung von Behandlungsoptionen für Patienten mit
Verdacht auf Pilzinfektionen zu helfen.
Die Produkte sind nur für den professionellen Gebrauch
bestimmt, sind nicht automatisiert und stellen kein
Begleitdiagnostikum dar.
Zusammenfassung und Erläuterung
Sabouraud Dextrose-Agar ist für die Kultivierung und
Differenzierung von Pilzen geeignet und kann anstelle des
amerikanischen Mediums Hodges verwendet werden.1 Die
Pilze behalten ihr typisches kulturelles Aussehen und
können daher leicht anhand der von Sabouraud
beschriebenen makroskopischen Standardmerkmale
identifiziert werden.2 Das Medium wird häufig zusammen
mit Antibiotika für die Isolierung von pathogenen Pilzen und
Candida albicans aus Material, das eine große Anzahl
anderer Pilze und Bakterien enthält.3–8
Das Prinzip der Methode
Sabouraud-Glukose-Agar enthält mykologisches Pepton
und Glukose, um das Wachstum von Pilzen zu fördern. Es
ist leicht sauer, was dazu beiträgt, Bakterien zu hemmen,
während es für Pilze günstig ist. Der Zusatz von
antimikrobiellen Wirkstoffen kann die Selektivität des
Mediums erhöhen. Chloramphenicol ist ein
bakteriostatisches Antimikrobiotikum mit einem breiten
Wirkungsspektrum sowohl gegen gram-positive als auch
gram-negative Bakterien.

Verfahren
SR0078E – Supplement für 500 ml Medium
•
Geben Sie 3 ml Ethanol in ein Fläschchen mit
SR0078E.
•
Mischen Sie es vorsichtig, bis es sich auflöst.
•
Fügen Sie den Inhalt des Fläschchens zu 500 ml
Agar-Basis hinzu, die nach den Anweisungen
zubereitet wurde.*

Auf 50 °C abkühlen.
•

Riepilogo e spiegazione
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar è adatto per la coltivazione e la

Principio del metodo
Sabouraud Glucose Agar contiene peptone micologico
e glucosio per supportare la crescita dei funghi. Questo

agenti antimicrobici può aumentare la selettività del mezzo.

Raccolta, manipolazione e conservazione
dei campioni
Il campione deve essere raccolto e manipolato seguendo le
linee guida raccomandate localmente, come gli standard
britannici per le indagini microbiologiche (UK SMI) B 29
(Public Health England, 2020).
Procedura
SR0078E - integratore per 500 ml di terreno
•
Aggiungere asetticamente 3 ml di etanolo a una fiala
di SR0078E.
•
Mescolare delicatamente per sciogliere.
•
Aggiungere il contenuto della fiala a 500 ml di base
agar preparata come indicato.*
•
Raffreddare a 50 °C.
•
Mescolare bene e dispensare in modo asettico in
piastre di Petri sterili.
*L'integratore deve essere aggiunto in modo asettico dopo

Resumo e explicação
O Sabouraud Dextrose Agar é adequado para cultura e
diferenciação de fungos, podendo ser utilizado no lugar do

Princípio do método
O Sabouraud Glucose Agar contém peptona micológica e

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar este adecvat pentru cultivarea și

american Hodges.1 Ciupercile își păstrează aspectul
cultural tipic și astfel pot fi ușor identificate conform
caracterelor macroscopice standard descrise de
Sabouraud.2 Mediul este adesea folosit cu antibiotice
pentru izolarea ciupercilor patogene și a Candida albicans
din material care conține un număr mare de alte ciuperci și

Principiul metodei
Sabouraud Glucose Agar conține peptonă micologică și
glucoză pentru a susține creșterea ciupercilor. Acesta este

Sabouraudov dextrózový agar je vhodný na kultiváciu
a diferenciáciu húb a možno ho použiť namiesto amerického

Princíp metódy

Incidentes graves

Recogida, manipulación y almacenamiento
de muestras
Es necesario recoger y manipular las muestras según las
directrices locales recomendadas, como los Estándares
para investigaciones de microbiología del Reino Unido
(UK SMI) B 29 (Public Health England, 2020).
Procedimiento
SR0078E: suplemento para 500 ml de medio
•
En condiciones de asepsia, añada 3 ml de etanol a
un vial de SR0078E.
•
Mezcle suavemente para disolver.
•
Añada el contenido del vial a 500 ml de base de agar
preparada según las instrucciones.*
•
Enfríe a 50 °C.
•
Mezcle bien y dispense, en condiciones asépticas,
en placas de Petri estériles.
*
El suplemento debe añadirse en condiciones asépticas
después de la esterilización.
SR0078H: suplemento para 2 litros de medio
•
En condiciones de asepsia, añada 12 ml de etanol a
un vial de SR0078H.
•
Mezcle suavemente para disolver.
•
Añada el contenido del vial a 2 litros de base de agar
preparada según las instrucciones.*
•
Enfríe a 50 °C.
•
Mezcle bien y dispense, en condiciones asépticas,

*Dessa bruksanvisningar (IFU) är avsedda att läsas
i samband med bruksanvisningen för Sabouraud Dextrose
Agar (Dehydrated) (CM0041B, CM0041K, CM0041R,
CM0041T).
Avsedd användning
Kloramfenikol selektiva kosttillskott (SR0078E, SR0078H)
är avsedda att användas vid framställning av Sabouraud
dextrosagar (dehydrerad) (CM0041B, CM0041K,
CM0041R, CM0041T) för isolering och underhåll av
dermatofyter, andra svampar och jästsvampar från hud,
naglar, könsorgan, luftvägar och urinprover.
Kloramfenikol selektiva tillskott, när de används med
Sabouraud dextrosagar, används i ett diagnostiskt
arbetsflöde för att hjälpa läkare att fastställa
behandlingsalternativ för patienter som misstänks ha
svampinfektioner.
Enheterna är endast avsedda för professionellt bruk, är inte
automatiserade och inte heller medföljande diagnostik.
Sammanfattning och förklaring
Sabouraud dextrosagar är lämplig för odling och
differentiering av svampar och kan användas i stället för det
amerikanska mediet Hodges.1 Svamparna bibehåller sitt
typiska kulturella utseende och kan därför lätt identifieras
enligt de vanliga makroskopiska karaktärerna som beskrivs
av Sabouraud.2 Mediet används ofta tillsammans med
antibiotika för isolering av patogena svampar och Candida
albicans från material som innehåller ett stort antal andra
svampar och bakterier.3–8
Principen för metod
Sabouraud glukosagar innehåller mykologisk pepton och
glukos för att stödja tillväxten av svampar. Det är lätt surt vilket
hjälper till att hämma bakterier samtidigt som det är gynnsamt
för svampar. Tillsatsen av antimikrobiella medel kan öka
mediets selektivitet. Kloramfenikol är ett bakteriostatiskt
antimikrobiellt medel med ett brett spektrum av aktivitet mot
både grampositiva och gramnegativa bakterier.
